View Full Version : Confused (FPS)

I am having trouble configuring my system to obtain an FPS above 15-20 (regularly dipping to 5-10). I have read most of the posts regarding this subject with hints and tips but the actions I've taken do not seem to help. I am assuming my problem is with my video card and was wondering if anybody could confirm (or refute) my suspicions.
To be clear: I'm 99% sure my challenge is with my system and not the program itself (ie lomac).
Thanks for any advise in advance.

Dell 8300
P4 2.8 HT
XP Home
512kb
120gig 7200 HD
FX5200 Ultra
MS Sidewinder II

Concur with Aldega.
GFX card is letting you down.
Rest of rig is a-ok.

Another vid card and a 512 stick of RAM and you'll see a marked improvement. I have an 1800 Athlon w/a 9800XT and 1.25 gigs RAM, and the game runs smooth at medium/settings. Obviously my CPU is the limiting factor w/framerates.

On a side note, a buddy of mine bought a P4 3.2, a gig of Kingston 3200 DDR, 9800XT and a couple of W/D 74 gig SATA (10,000rpm) drives. He runs everything on high and over cities w/a raging battle he's still doing 25fps minimum.

the biggest fps hits are as follows:

Water
Overcast
Advanced Haze
view distance
scene complexity

If you download LOMAN 2.0 you can also download some good fps saving files. There is an overcast mod that lowers the detail and speeds things up.

Also you can download a flare/explosion program that removes the pixel shader effects from them, that would really speed things up on your card.

Also look in the sticky above for the tweak thread. You'll find some graphics.ini changes that will really make a difference.

Thanks again everybody. I didn't mention in my original post that I have the graphics set to default low so I knew that there was an issue with my system/settings.
Regarding Loman: I'm planning on upgrading my graphics card in the next couple of months. Once I do that will I still need Loman?

Ruggbutt - Your friend is a lucky man. If I got out and pushed I might get 25fps. LOL!!

I know what's your problem.
Really.
Get some memory.
512 Kilobytes are simply not enough for your purposes http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
