Ananova:
German man charged with teaching dog Hitler salute

A German man is to appear in court charged with teaching his dog to give the Hitler salute.

The black sheepdog-mix, named Adolf, has been taught to lift his right front paw up straight in the salute on command.

Police were called to the scene in Berlin when Roland T, 54, shouted at passers-by last year.

When a patrol arrived, he allegedly showed them the trick he had taught his dog, gave the salute along with Adolf, and shouted: "Sieg Heil."

Now he has been charged with using symbols of unconstitutional organisations. If found guilty, he faces up to three years in prison.

Adolf will probably be brought to a pet shelter, the Berliner Kurier reports.

Carola Ruff, of the local animal protection organisation, says the dog shouldn't be judged for what its owner taught it.

"It makes me sick to think someone's using his dog as an instrument of his deranged brain," she told the paper.

Sounds like something that should be in a comedy sketch.

3 years for that.

Well I guess if it was in america that wouldn't fly but comming from germany and a german himself I would take great offense to that.

He should be thrown into jail, but 3 years is a tad bit to long.

LOL.

Isn't a doggy handshake the exact same thing. How much dexterity do dogs have in their paws? They lift their leg up. I think that's about it.

BTW, it could be called a Roman salute, that way he can get away with it.

Don't see the irony in the fact the dog was a mix breed and not pure blood?

Only problem is he taught the dog to raise its paws on the command of "Sieg Heil."

You know, in America, he would have been allowed to continue this, and eventually teach the dog how to hunt down and bite Jews, or something, but good thing it's in Germany, always good to see an idiot thrown into jail, even though technically I don't really see a crime in it, it's just wrong.

And ASH, it could be many things, but it's obvious what it's intended to be, not much of an argument for that, but of course you'll try to find one anyway.

I fail to see any humour in it. The fact that such people and ideologies are still around is pathetic.

"The submergence of self in the pursuit of an ideal, the readiness to spend oneself without measure, prodigally, almost ecstatically, for something intuitively apprehended as great and noble, spend oneself, one knows not why, - some of us like to believe that this is what religion means. "

Of course it's a touchy topic in Germany, the government is trying really hard to overcome that association of Germany with Nazi's.

There are a hell of a lot of people with that ideology, unfortunately. I've stumbled upon forums dedicated solely to discussions about bigotry with over 15,000 members... sick stuff.

Just out of curiousity Cow, how do you stumble into those sites? Are you saying that one doesn't have to look that hard, or by accident you were taken there from another site?

I was on a free speach forum but unfortunately it was used up by all the people that would have been baned in any other forum/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

ahhh those people are crazy. If there is one thing I hate more then anything in the whole world it's rascism, next to haughtiness. They seem to had both. Which is why I hate them so much./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

There is no humour behind intention.

But I find the idea of a dog handshake being called a nazi salute quite funny. You see it in comedy movies like Top Secret and laugh. You people are way too touchy.

And btw, I AM Jewish, in a way. Not religeously but ethnically.

And find an arguement? In what? He got thrown in jail for his ideology that is based on hatred. Good. But the dog part is funny.

Hate to break it to you ASH, but Judaism is a religion and not an ethnicity regardless of what he Nazis and their inheritors say. A dog handshake is a dog handshake. But a doggie handshake after a "sieg heil" is not.

Thank you Geist, I've been trying to tell people that for SO long.

So, half my family tree is Christian, and the other half is Buddhist. So I guess I'm both. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Not really, but just an example. The faith your family has chosen to be doesn't at all affect you. Yah, too bad sarcasm only works when you're right about something. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Well the nazis sure as heck didn't think that. If I were to be in Holland, where I'm from, during WW2, I would be dead because of the classification. Most were killed, except my ganddad who was in Borgen-Belsen and Auschwitz, working because he was a skilled metal worker. We recently recieved a payout for his labour by the German companies who profited. too bad he wasn't alive to recieve it, although it would hardly have been compensation, more recognition of what they did.

They're not atheists, but they're secular. They're Jews who identify as Jews and who go to synagogue on those times that they do pray. Kind of like Christians who go to church on Christmas and Easter.

Ash, according to the Reform movement you would be Jewish since they decided to use patralineal descent. The rest of world used matrilineal descent and has for centuries due to Crusades and such.
