Why do settlers go on strike? Sometimes I have seen this when I have been capturing large swathes of enemy territory. And sometimes I don't.

This happens when there are not enough residences for the settlers! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

but if your settlers are drafted into the military do they count? or say if you have a population of 500 including military of 200 then you lose a couple large residences do 80 go on strike?

only free settlers need a residence to live on
all the other live at teir on quarters
ie
soldiers in the barracks
farmers in the farms..and so on
so to answer your question, no, any settler that is not a carrier dont count as a free settler,so you can have say, 6 large resis(300beds) and only 80 free settlers you can knock down a few resis before any man goes on stryke.

Damian...
I have been testing all these theories and others... like proportions of coal mines needed etc
I just wanted confirmation, especially considering the strategy offered by one guy of destroying residences once one is sure its carriers have been drafted to free space. It seemed that as the game moves on, many of the residences become surplus
All buildings count towards your overall fighting % strength though, so if you demolish the residences, then your strength will go backwards too. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Thanks Megg
I got settlers 4 some time ago, and like a fool got bored with it quick and played around with AOE 2... I just got a new amd 64 machine and started experimenting with old games I had had trouble with before, and saw settlers in a new light. No game has hooked me so much since alpha centauri/alien crossfire. The interface is unusual, but well worth adapting to
Already got a guy at work so hooked on it he comes in tired and refuses extra shifts http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
