Basically, as I understand it, CAR-15 is the name for Armalite`s version of the M4?

Aries73,

Ahh.. As a really big Sig fan I gotta say they are some fantastic rifles.. Maybe if they weren't so damn expensive someone besides the Swiss Army would use them?

no, the rifle butts just make a good flag stand /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

j/k

well, not sure about the ENTIRE French Special Forces but their CT units use it like GIGN. Even though the French standard issue is the FAMAS. CT units tend to avoid Bullpups, bullets and gas eject close to the face.

Australia's SAS and the SEALS are also fond of it. Its very durable for a bullpup and can withstand alot of punishment.

So let me rephrase my last post.

in CQB situations CT units tend to aviod Bullpups. I'm not necessarily saying they don't use it all together.

How can you say that about the weapons in AS? I'm chomping at the bit to slaughter legions of tangos with that three-round burst 9mm pistol thingee. Look out!

Is there a .45 version of the M-16\M-4 family available? I've seen a .223 and 9mm but not a .45,just wondering is all.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised at all if there's one in that caliber. Considering the wide range of calibers the M16 family/style of rifles have been built to accomodate rounds such as 7.62mm, .50 AE, .440 Corbon and more.

Does anyone have any info about the potential military use of a 6.8x43mm round? I've read of it potentially being used in a modular system that could fire various calibers depending on configuration.

I know of no "name brand" manufacter that offers the model in .45...
But that is not to say there is no such model offered by custom gun makers or gun smiths out there.

You can get a .45 ACP upper receiver and magazine for the AR15/M16/M4 family. Pick up a copy of 'Shotgun News', and look through the ads. You should be able to get Shotgun News from most any Wal Mart.

That's one of the benefits of this weapon, you can change the upper receiver and magazine in under a minute, and have a completely different caliber.

I read in either Special Weapons or Guns & Weapons that the 6.8x43mm (or 6.8x42mm, or .276 SPR I have seen all three designations) would get a try out by Spec-Op units before any major issuing takes place. I haven't seen any ballistic data for it, but one writer estimated a MV of between 2800 to 3000 fps with bullets of between 85 to 120 grains. That is just hopeless guessing on his part, I feel sure. I would really like to see some hard data on it, because theoretically it could be a very effective cartridge, even from shorter barreled weapons.

About the .45 ACP AR-15, in the 2002 Special Weapons annual there is a small picture of a La Frace Specialties AR-15 conversion in .45 ACP. But it mentions that they dont manufacter it with a collapsible stock, which diminishes it a little in my eyes. Not that you couldn't slap your own C. stock on it.

To win any confrontation, you need three things. You need the proper equipment, you need the proper training, and you need an edge over your opponent. Most of the time, your training is that edge.

Pardon me?! I believe the Steyr AUG has at least one nasty little feature the Australian army is now rather unhappy about about. It has a plastic component in the firing mechanisim, and yessir, fire off a few mags in full auto with it and that little component will melt in spectaularly destructive fashion - the gun will need an overhaul to repair it. Hence, the aussie SAS frequently go for an M4 variant for most missions. The Australian armed forces are supposedly in contact with Steyr to have this part replaced with a metal version, but i'm not sure about how that's going, if it's happening at all.

As for the Seals, i dunno. I thought they went with Colt Commandos with condoms for water proofing the muzzle, at least they did in a movie awhile ago called GI jane. I know, hollywood movies arn't exactly reliable on the realism front, but as i said, i don't know what the Seals prefer.

I agree, the SIG weapons really should be in the game, they're good rifles. Also, I think it would be cool if they had included the F2000 (the rifle that Sam Fisher uses). More shotguns might also be nice...

heres a question:
isnt the M4 better in "real life" than it is in rvs?

I would like to see these weapons introduced into Raven Shield...

HK's MSG-90 sniper rifle
Accuracy International's Artic Warfare Super Magnum (.338 Lapua round preference)
Canadian C3A1 & C3 sniper rifle
Tactical Operations Tango 51 sniper rifle
Diemaco C7A1 / C8 carbine (think M16 with scope and full automatic)
HK G11
HK MG 36
HK MG-43
Semi long list, I know, but it is a good list...

"heres a question:

Yhea, it's an excellent weapon, much used by all types of SF units all over... Dunno why they made it the way they did in the game...
Sure, it has it's issues, but for such a (arguably) realistic game you'd expect the M4 to be more realistic...
