when you take a nail, a bullet, and a hammer then take the nail put it on the primer of the bullet and hit the nail with a hammer?
I need an answer before I get bored and try it myself...../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

There's more space for the force of the explosion to go, so the stuff that gets projected won't be going nearly as fast as a a bullet fired from a gun.

There is no chamber to hold and contain the pressure so the pressure will go out in all directions. - I actually did this with a .22 shell when I was thirteen and much dumber than I am today. I laid it on an anvil- the bare cartridge- and hit it with a big hammer and it did go off. It wasn't all that loud, compared to the sound of the hammer.
I also saw a friend-older of course-of mine that made bets that he could shoot a .12 gauge Model 12 Winchester-it works with one other model too, but I forget what it is-through a two by four and then take the same load and same gun and shoot into a hat and 75% of the bee bees would still be in the hat and there would be no hole in the hat.
The person he bet with could load the gun and watch closely. Well, he got a lot of bets and never lost one.
What you do is let the guy load the gun and then you shoot through the 2x4, big hole, then you let him load it again and use your hat, but this time you take a screwdriver and take the sideplate off the shotgun, aim at the hat and shoot- voila-no hole in the hat and most of the bee bees in the hat. Course the guys always cry foul, but he did what he said he would-technically-and they always paid up.
For those of you who don't know- once the side plate is removed the blast is directed to the side and into the air, thus no power coming out the barrel. I saw him do this several times.
My uncle also told me that you could actually see a .22 bullet going through the air with your scope if you watched closely. I tried this many, many times, until one day I shot it at tree level and actually saw the bullet going through the air, at treetop level. It went straight for a bit , then it kinda went a little to one side and then back. I saw this at least 5 or more times after that. Some may scoff, but I assure you that it is true.
And, yes, I'm back- please don't ask me why, for i have no answers. Might be MNG's fault. Lol
Take care all:

Um, actually, if he's only using the bullet, he is screwing around with live ammunition. Nothing to do with a firearm.
/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
(but if you are talking about the shotgun with the side plate removed, yes, he is stupid)

Yah, was talking about the shotgun thing, but even the bullet, shouldn't the ammunition be kept safe from the reach of children too???

hey they are my guns.....
anways I wouldn't actually be that stupid to try it.
anyways like what leep did when he was 13 I think proves that all kids shouldn't be given firearms.
Give them a crappy BB gun and let them run around.
Even then they do stupid things.... like I did.

From a very young age my Dad impressed upon me that every firearm I picked up was loaded and the first thing you do is open the action and check it-even if you just observed the person who held it before you check it. Once it comes into your hands it becomes a loaded and dangerous weapon, until you prove it otherwise. I taught my son the very same thing and he never handles or hands over a firearm without first opening it for inspection. A good and tried rule. As for the gentleman with the shotgun, I was about 13 or 14 and he was about 24- an old man, in my young opinion and I looked up to him. He was in no danger nor was anyone else that was in the area-the cartridge was still enclosed in the chamber, it was the action that was exposed allowing the gases to escape harmlessly and the bee bees barely made it out the end of the barrel. That was why I made the distinction that only 2 makes of shotguns could be untilzed in this manner. With perfect safety. And- he used only low brass shells, which are light loads.
Of course he and his cousin used to get drunk and shoot tracers over each others' house roofs, so maybe he isn't the best example for a young kid growing up-/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
of course, he and 4 of my friends sat on the cold, lonely mountain one winter night waiting for me to recover from a 20 foot fall from a big poplar tree I bailed out of when the branch i was holding on to broke. Then they helped me walk, toddle, off the mountain to my car, which one of them drove to make sure i got home. Didn't even get the raccoon. The hounds weren't happy about that one. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
Hmm- at least you guys force me to remember the crazy things that happened to me growing up- for that I'm thankful.
Take care:
