View Full Version : Hosting behind switch/router

Just a quick question, it appears impossible to host a game behind a switch/router successfully, so I'm trying to find out who CAN host a game. I've tried everything even putting the host in the DMZ to no avail. People can join then 15 seconds later they're all gone...

HOW MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE CAN DO IT.

If so how?

I've opened all neccesary ports but that obviously doesn't matter cause even when in the DMZ I still cannot...

Thanks for your time!

I have no trouble hosting from behind my Linksys, without using the DMZ feature of the router. All I did was forward the ports described in the manual to my PC.

Good Luck with your config!

Heres the thing my roomate and I opened all the ports we need for this game on both of our computers...but for some reason I can't host a game...but he can...it just doesnt make sense everything on our computers are set up exactly the same just for some reason he can host...and I can't...it makes no sense to me but oh well we just play that way http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Damn guys! You're making the issue more convulted.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I've got a Dlink wireless g w/ build in 4 port switch and have forwarded all needed ports, and as I've said before, put my machine in the DMZ and it STILL doesn't work. Unfortunately after what Spam_Wisher said there doesn't seem to be much hope... guess I'll keep messing with it...

I used to be able to host a server no problem behind my linksys switch. I didn't even have to open any ports (that's beyond my level of computer knowledge anyway)

However, since patch, my server only shows up for a couple minutes. After the first few people to join leave, no one else EVER comes in. =/ Tested with a friend to confirm my server wasn't showing up.

Dont ya just love it when it says there's 100 people in a lobby and there's like 3 servers showing up? =)

Mine only shows up for a couple of seconds apparently, even then my friends tell me it comes up as full, or unavailable despite DMZ enabled. I've hosted recently and its been ok for the people who've joined...Is there any way to Direct IP?

I would not recommend this unless you do not care about the security of your computer.

I would love to disable NAT but I cant, Dlink does not allow that on their routers.

ok if you keep nat on your network is practically invisable. there is a small risk. but we gamers if you hack my comp my reformatt every month would handle that so i dont really care about hackers.

I used to have a router (with nat enabled) and at the same time Norton Personal Firewall (NPF). Never had an attack in over 3 years.

Now I have switched ISP and have no router only modem, but still NPF installed, and now I have a security warning at least 2 times a day, where some port scanning program is trying to get into my computer.

And yes, I am also a gamer, and reformat my harddrive every second month or so, but nevertheless I do not want somebody, that I have not invited, to access my computer.

If you know what ports to open, and how you do it on your router, it is no problem to have nat enabled.
