I live in the UK & have never fired a gun apart from sum clay pigeon shooting so forgive my ignorance but. Is there a great difference between a hard stock MP5 to the sliding stock MP5.Its just that I was watching the history channel here about S.F. Teams &CQB.
And it showed Navy SAEL & SAS using the Sliding stock were as it had shots of Delta & GSG9 using the hard stock.
Is it just a case of personal preference?

It is very much about personal preference. I use the MP5 in norwegian Home Defence, and we use fixed stock versions. The versions with retractable stocks are in fact a little more heavy, but on the other hand they can collapse and take up less space... As for fireing with fixed/retractable stock, I`ve tried both and felt no difference, other than its cold laying your cheek down on the metal rails of the retractable stock during norwegian winters! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

well I have an airsoft MP5-A5, and there is no difference its just as accurate as the airsoft hard stock A4 when its extended and its more useful and easier to use in close with it retracted, so I would guess it would be the same for the real ones

The collapsable stocks were originaly designed as a benefit to concealment only. But in CQB they tend to be easier as far as getting the weapon toward the center of your body with body armor on. But in all fairness, that seems to be more dependant on the length of a sling rather than the length of the stock. People with thick upper bodies might prefer an adjustable legth stock as opposed to the collapsable stock.

I'm just making sure if I have my facts straight but the A-5 has the built in flashlight right?

the mp5 has retractable stock, the mp5a2 has the built in flashlight but any mp5 can have one.

no the A5 just denotes that it has the retractable stock and the capability of 3RB, the versions are basically as follows

The A2 doesnt have a built in flash light but one can be added, and its a hell of a lot bigger than the mag lights that you use on the over versions

54 : basic original design

A1 : shortest MP5 varient, a reciever cap takes the place of a buttstock.

A2 : Baseline MP-5 with a fixed, plastic stock.

A3 : Baseline MP-5 with a collapsable metal stock.

A4 : MP5 A2 with a new trigger group allowing single shot, 3-round burst, or full-automatic fire.

A5 : MP5 A3 with the new trigger group allowing single shot, 3-round burst, or full-automatic fire.

A6 : Improved version

SD1 : Integrated silencer version of the MP5 A1

SD2 : Integrated silencer version of the MP5 A2

SD3 : Integrated silencer version of the MP5 A3

SD4 : Integrated silencer version of the MP5 A4

SD5 : Integrated silencer version of the MP5 A5

SD6 : Integrated silencer version of the MP5 A6

K : k=kurtz, german for short, fore grip added

K A1 : MP5K lacking aiming sights for minimum size and maximum concealability.

no K A2 or K A3 AFAIK

K A4 : MP5K with new 3-round burst trigger group

K A5 : MP5K lacking aiming sights utilizing the 3-round burst trigger assembly

K-PDW : k=kurtz, PDW personal defence weapon, can have folding stock

MP53 : A MP5 that has been chambered for the 5.56 round

MP5/40 A1 : A MP5 that has been chambered for the 40 S&W round

All versions can carry a light in the fore grip except the K versions

and of course, the MP5/10 chambered for 10 mm round, originally ordered for FBI before the MP5/40 was available

in my opinion the mp5a4 is the best mp5, as it offers all trigger groups and has a butt that isnt to small and isnt too big

the best trigger group in my opinion is where u get the option of 2-round burst instead of 3-round. It is just a little more precise... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I thought a 10mm was a .40 caliber to begin with?

No, the 40 is a necked down 10mm. It was the answer to complaints on excessive recoil for the 10mm. Rather than put less powder in a 10mm case, the case was cut shorter to better accomodate the reduced load. Caliber is still the same, velocity and size of case is different.

thanx Koffin, I looked it up some info on it. The 40 is shorter by 2 mms, compared to the 10mm.

Anyways, does the FBI still use them? I heard they're phasing them out for the UMP.

Probably, now that the UMP is available in 9 mm as well, most MP5s will be replaced... Except here in Norway where the military is s l o w to replace weapons /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

oh I forgot to point out that the A4, A5, A6, SD4, SD5 and SD6, are capable of having the three round burst, but that doenst mean they have to have it, even without it they are still called the same.

BTW the HK53, is the MP53, they are just different names for the same gun
