ok, just got FC, like it. i have now a pentium 4, 2.4Ghz, 512Mb of PC2100 ram, and a GeForce4 MX. well, i had another thread goin about how i can make the game better, but it started to get off topic. in that thread, it was sugested to get an ATI 9600XT. i would like to do this, but im wondering if it's worth it (with my system) to get another 512Mb of memory.

-would a second 512Mb be worth it?
-if so, should i get another PC2100 speed since that's what i have now?
-does the brand matter? like, is $80 memory better than $200?

please give me your insight

The extra 512 would be a good investment. Unless your motherboard supports a faster speed, and you're willing to start over with ALL new ram, get the speed you have now. It's only going to run as fast as the slowest speed ram in your system.
Chances are the ram in your system is just basic PC2100 ram. Once again, no need spending the extra on high performance ram if you are going to keep your existing ram. Kingston or Crucial value ram would probably be a good choice. How many memory slots do you currently have?

i have 2 slots, but the 512 i have only takes up one of em. ill just go with a PC2100 (which is what i have now). I found a nice stick from Crucial, $90.

say i got that extra 512Mb of ram:

should i get the ATI 9600XT, or go all out and get the 9800Pro?

would the difference between the 2 chips really be noticable if i still only have a 2.4Ghz processor?

Get the Pro if you can afford it.

Or, better still, get a Nvidia (lol) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

i want to stick with ATI, but i just dont want to buy the 9800Pro if it's not going to make a difference on my comp.

Yeah the Crucial will be just fine.

How much more for the 9800Pro?

It will be enough of a difference to justify an extra 50 bucks or so.

What would you recommend in the Nvidia line for around 200-215 Ru?

Right now I think the 9800Pro is the best bang for the buck in its price range.

ok, well i just went onto ZipZoomFly and purchased the extra 512Mb of RAM, and the ATI 9800Pro!

more than i would have liked to have spent, but it was only a $50 differance, so its not the end of the world. I made out well because there was a special, and both of my items had FREE 2nd day shipping!

ATI 9800Pro = $223.00
Crucial 512Mb = $90.00
Tax = $0.00
2nd Day Ship. = $0.00
--------------------
TOTAL =$313.00

Good deal! Which 9800Pro did you get?

That's a good pair. Your ram is a little slower than you want, but that won't severely detract from the alternative. Crucial is good stuff, it's really good for the price. Good choice on video card too. It'll be like night and day compared to that ****ty MX you had before.
