Stupid I am, I ordered some DVDs not long ago from the US and I must have checked something wrong on the mailing shipping method, first time doesn't help much too, I usually order inside Canada.

I opened my mail today to find out that I owe UPS about 40$US. I think I choosed regular ground mail instead of airmail to Canada.. I donno, there was no way to know which one was cheaper.

What I owe at UPS if I look on the receipt are mostly taxes, government fees and fees for preparation for borderlines shipping totaling 59$ CAD.

Makes me wonder if I choosed some proper shipping method these horrible costs could have been diminished.

Ok if I reread the offered methods, I think it was the cheapest method.

I think the fees I owe to UPS are standart foreign shipping fees and may be not UPS charging me like I thought they were.

I should have think of that http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

Getting things shipped from one country to another is always a big hassle. Even though we are connected...

That's a big hassle because you have to work to earn your money. So technically, money = work. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

JonZ, you didn't do anything wrong. Buying stuff from the US is a big pain you-know-where. The fees that you see are called 'brokerage fees' and you're practically paying that on top of custom fees - and UPS charges that just to get something across the border.

That's why many people that live somewhat close to the border and buy a lot of stuff from the US usually get a P.O. box in the US and go pick the stuff up themselves.

I bought my Ipaq 5555 from a Canadian company and saved a few hundred dollars that way. I was surprised and somewhat annoyed by the unexpected forty dollar customs fee, but it still amounts to a net savings. So I really can't be too upset over it.

The Right to command is bought with Duty, the Privilege of rank is Service.

Problem is when you buy cheaper stuff..... i.e. VW Motorsports strut mounts: price $60 US... Brokerage fee: $40 CDN http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif

depends on how much the savings are I guess.

I wish those duty fees for bringing crap across the border were scrapped. My uncle gave me his old car for christmas, helluva gift, and it cost a few hundred bucks to bring across the border. I know it seems kinda bratty to be whining but come on, it was a gift for heaven's sake. If I didn't have that money in my bank account I'd be screwed out of a damn gift.

Stupid duties... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

It's lame when you want to buy hard-to-find computer accessories/mods, and the S&H comes more than the total of the actual product http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

well the sad thing on my experience is, I paid the taxes and the transits in the package!

It a bit like I have paid twice someone. Bah, I have my DVDs now, already played them a couple of times, I guess it was worth the heavy price http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
