Does anyone know how to convert Yahoo chess games so that they can be read on Chessmaster. I've seen some of the conversion to PGN programs that you can find if you type in Google, but none of them seem to work. Thanks.

On http://pgn.freeservers.com/ you can download a program ( http://pgn.freeservers.com/hooScore.zip ) that converts the yahoo games into pgn files, that can be read by Chessmaster.

Chessmaster can't read a pgn file?? It should be able to do that, otherwise I'm very confused http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif
If it's the program that doesn't work then I'll find another one (I haven't tried it myself, don't play on yahoo).

Now what's really strange is that CM 5000 could read coordinate. I use to use it to get the Yahoo games into PGN. Open it as a PGN and resave it as another PGN file CM would write it back as algebraic.
THEN you could bring it into CM 9K for analysis.

I will try CM 5000. Do I need to save the yahoo games as a text file or microsoft file for them to be read on CM 5000 or can CM 5000 read directly off the email. How do you do it?
With the earlier comments, I tried the pgnfreeservers page Hoo Score and it didn't work. I also came across a Yahoo 2 converter where I would enter the yahoo game and it would convert on the screen to PGN and then direct me to an HTML board version of the game. I never figured out how to save the Yahoo 2 converter as a PGN file. Thanks again for the tip on CM 5000. Marc

I wrote my own programme to do that.
It is available at:
http://www.mnsi.net/~mhumenny/chess/converter.html
I wrote this for myself so it isn't exactly polished but it works. Keep in mind that yahoo doesn't record the result of the game so this version just assumes someone won. If the game is a draw you will have to manually edit the game. Yahoo also doesn't record what a pawn prommotes to so this programme just asumes a queen. (My first post here, I am trying some features out)

Just saw this message so wanted to let you know how I do it. I use WinBoard (http://www.tim-mann.org/chess.html) to do the conversion:
1) Email Game history to your yahoo account.
2) Copy or save email to a .txt file on your computer.
3) Start up WinBoard, and Load Game (You have to change the file time to search for to All Files to see your .txt file).
4) From WinBoard select save game. It will ask to you choose a file name (as a .pgn).
5) You're done, load up the .pgn file you saved in Chessmaster and enjoy the game analysis.

I use the winboard method too. The thing that's really annoying is that Yahoo's coordinate notation doesn't even record all of the game information. It completely ignores pawn promotion. When winboard reads the file, it'll just assume a pawn that reaches the last rank will promote to a queen. But if you try to paste a game in which a pawn promotes to any other piece, it'll read as corrupt because the rest of the moves won't make sense.
Granted, 99% of the games you'll play won't run into this problem, but it has happened to me twice since I've been playing on Yahoo. They should really update their interface and software.

Hello,
it works with that prog (hooScore), but u have to use the Normal32 prog as well afterwards. Can be found on the same page. Then the pgn files can be read.
A faster way is this online Yahoo2PGN Converter version:

An easy way to convert games from Yahoo format to PGN is just to go to this website and paste your game:
Convert Yahoo To PGN Format (http://www.douglassdavis.com/pgnchess2006) : http://www.douglassdavis.com/pgnchess2006
There are a few improvements over some other converters found on the web:
- correctly handles enpassant
- works with firefox
- handles unfinished games
- gives a choice in pawn promotion
