PC Hangs in the Splash screen [Archive]

Hi gents, I just installed FB on my spare PC while my main system is in for fault-finding. I'm experencing a system hang when the FB splash screen 'loading' message reaches 20%. I have successfully used FB on this spare system previously, which is: MSI K7T266 Pro-2 mainboard (latest BIOS & VIA service pack), AMD XP1600, GF2MX400 (det 30.82), 384MB PC2100 DDR, Realtek AC-97 on-board sound, 6GB Maxtor HD, Win ME.

The hang occurs in both OpenGL and DirectX.

A search of the forum hasn't revealed anyone else with this specific problem, so I hope someone here can help.

EDIT: I just installed IL-2 Sturmovik and the same thing happens in that too.

I don't know but ususally if you post your dx-diag steve V or hunter or someone can tell you more about what the problem might be. Perhaps you don't have enough virtual memory, or perhaps your screen resolution is set too low.
That'd be the first things I'd look at if I had that problem. Don't know tho. Post the dx-diag and I bet one of those fine fellows can help you out.

Install nVidia 44.03. The 41.09 is optimzed for dx9, but the 44.03 gives better results.

Lower sound hardware acceleration to Standard.

384mb RAM just won't do it for either sim. Lower ingame video settings and you should be good to go until your main rig returns.

Thanks Steve, in the meantime I updated the drivers to 44.03 after reading that I would need them for the upcoming patch. I then re-installed FB and it worked. Haven't done the DX9 upgrade yet though. I don't expect to get anything like the level of performance that my main system achieves, but it's enough to have some QMB dogfight action for now /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
