As comes to my attention, a friend of mine has a Geforce 3 [maybe lower] and DOES see rinkels in his water a.k.a little waves. I got a Geforce 4 MX 460 (which works great in this game), but the water is more like a mirror with Fish in it..
Now, i wonder how does that guy have little waves in the Far Cry water, and i dont?

the gf4 MX is not a geforce 4, it is a geforce2 gts (about.) Sorry, but you are the victim of marketing crap. Your friend's gf3 can do it because all gf3's have pixel shading processors onboard, yours does not. Sorry. If you want a good card in the future, never get anything with the prefix "se" "mx" etc... only get the normal, "ultra" or the "pro" editions unless its nvidia where ultra means nothing "5200ulta" lol.

It doesnt really bother me, but its kinda weird that a friend of mine has a Geforce 3 [LOWER then a GF4 MX] and does see little waves in his Far Cry ocean water a.k.a TEXTURE /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

That is easily explained. The GF 4 MX series is only a revamped GF 2, therefore it is missing pixel and vertex shaders, which were introduced in the GF 3 series and continued in the GF 4 Ti and GF FX series.
Without those pixel and vertex shaders you will not see the water wrinkel since this is an effect created by the first of the mentioned shaders. Seeing then that those are missing in the MX, I would say you are out of luck. /i/smilies/16x16_robot-sad.gif
Blame NVidia for their strange naming, which made many people believe they got a better card than a GF 3 with a GF 4 MX and didn't.
My suggestions is that, if you don't have the money for a top of the line card, you might at least look for a GF 4 Ti or a Radeon 8xxx, which should be available fairly cheap nowadays.

yup, if i were you and if you had some money get a ti4200 or an 8500 normal (not SE) Or if you have 150-199 get a 9600XT (comes with hl2!!)

IF you're going to spend some cash on a vid card, get a dx9 card. The gf4 ti4600 is not a dx9 card. It's up to you, but I'm just recommending.

ya, for about the same price as the 4600 or so, you can get hte 9600xt which does pixel/vertex shaders in ogl 2 and dx9, and it comes with hl2 for free. cant beat it if you aren't gonna spend 250+

Amen to what Mantis said, I have that card and am able to run the game at very high on everything and no lag. I even set the AA to low and no lag yet!! I have not tried AA on medium or high yet.
