"dial up the intensity and adrenaline to create an experience of total war"
*looks up from his book*
"We've retooled and improved every aspect of the game, and have integrated a host of incredible new features"
*looks over his shoulder nervously*
"completely redesigned graphics engine"
*starts running as fast as he can in the other direction*
Seriously though, I'm going to keep an eye on this. The Redstorm team has yet to let me down (unlike another nameless dev team within Ubi), but the Ubi rhetoric in the press release scares me.

Yah, I thought this was bad news, but then it said the Red Storm team will be doing it. Not UbiSoft's Montreal team, you know, the one that completely screwed up the Rainbow Six name with Raven-Shield. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif
But this one should be good, Red Storm has been pretty good so far.

I just hope they will improve the mobility, the viewdistance and AI. When GR came out after I've played OFP for a long period, I was kind of disapointed by all this. Of course it was graphical superior but I felt like playing in fog everytime.

Oh, stop mentioning OFP! Now I'm thinking about OFP again, gotta see more about OFP2!!

Well, I'm starting to think that OFP2 could be a faillure as a possibility to expect. Too many good games has been ruined by sequels.
And not to mention the other FPS games are starting to employ 3D engines similar to OFP, and they look better too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
I only hope BIS will stick to the gameplay performance and offer the best support as they did for OFP1.

I don't care much for "pretty" graphics, graphics should only be there to facilitate gameplay in my opinion. Operation Flashpoint did it the best, gameplay was awesome, and graphics was just good enough so you'll know when you've killed that bastard that's up on that hill side.

seriously, after browsong through that webpage, I didn't see anything that could mathch the original OFP from 2001.
I think the graphics in the original OFP (without the incredible mods) was awesome considering the size of the maps and a viewdistance of up to 5 km.
Any other war sim would also have a hard time getting my attention. I must be the ultimate OFP armchair general when playing with my clan where all have military experience, using the correct tactics and communication while operating my official army coffecup with the other hand.

maybe I need to check that game out some day. considering you guys talk about it so muchhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
You've missed indeed a great game.
Too bad it was too slow for a huge amount of people (especially the Online feature)
(oh and I mean slow by the learning curve and the lack of CS or BF genre playability)

Yah, it's a game for people with a lot of patience. Trust me, the first time you pick it up, you'll spend most of the time dying.
If you do check it out, make sure you have the latest patch, the first build, the enemies had magical shooting powers, lol.

Magic Powers, Flying Vehicles (presumably land based). . .
Now I remember why I was advised to stay away from OFP. :P
What's so great about this game other than big maps? I also recall hearing it was one of those games where an infantryman can "grab" a fighter plane and fly around blowing stuff up. Correct me if I've been misinformed. Still I like to keep my FPSes and my flight sims separate, at least until were all living in some virtual world that's indistinguishable from reality (or some such nonsense).

Well, I wouldn't play OFP for it's aircraft... Don't know about the "grabbing" a fighter plane thing though...
Anyway, it's about as realistic as games have came so far, as far as infantry movement and warfare is concerned.

In Multiplayer, yes, every type of soldiers can grab aircrafts, but it depend how well the scenario (map) are made. usually in map editing, players begining with airplanes already in air, they are automatically pilots IIRC. As for the landed crafts, they start empty, so it up to the map maker to put pilots or regular infantry men around the free choppers or landed planes.
Anyway, doesn't really matter if the soldier is a pilot or not, does'nt add anything to the game.
Normaly, the aircrafts are given to the begining of scenario or MP games. If your team is well experienced and don't have noobs (who usually runs for aircrafts because they think they'll will destroy everythings and crash it half a minute later), choppers and aircrafts are used on team basically for air support and air superiority. It not realistically well done but it does the job.
I flew the A-10 and cobra. Choppers are hard to control with a joystick, while the A-10 is the best way to go. I however rarely got in a game which aircrafts still flying in air the whole game which long usually around 30 mins. (30mins with 24 people is short!!)
