View Full Version : Will using the Destruction brush help Finland map?

I'm building missions for an online war about Malta and the Finland map makes the best sense for it. But that map is a CPU hog. I was wondering if wiping out Leningrad and Helsinki with the destruction brush would help or worsen the warpiness of that map?

Anyone out there have any experience with the effects of that?

Yes. I have a Stalingrad dogfight mission and after seeing your post I went in and played that mission with destruction level 0% and then opened and save the mission with 100% destruction level set. Seems I picked up 10 to 15 FPS after doing this. Both times I made it a point after dogfighting and working my way down to 1000 klm, or lower, to fly over the city before ending the mission. The mission I saved with the high destruct level definitely had higher FPS. I usually get a flux of 25 FPS low to 40 FPS high. It jumps on the high destruct mission I saved to usual lows of 35 FPS to highs as good as 46 FPS. Away from the city I get 45 to 62 FPS. On my system I do get some slow down if too many objects and planes are placed in a mission although I am getting pretty good FPS with the BOE campaigns with a whole-lotta bombers in them.

Actually a good find for future mission making.

Thanks,
Rick

Yes this will help but at a cost.....your mission files ( *.mis) balloon in size and you can end up with 60-100k files....which isn't a problem for single player but a big problem if doing it to online maps re loading times.

There we were....two against a thousand....so what'd we do????......shot'em both!!!

That means they have to wait while loading right? But a little longer wait in exchange for a much smoother mission seems a fair exchange. Finland map is already a loading beast AND a frame hog.

BTW, we tried this with an online mission and so far it looks like the mission went from being fairly warpy to pretty smooth.

You know, LEXX Luthor may be onto something asking for "clean" maps in Pacific Fighters...

yeah, I think so too. If we had clean maps we could definately put more ships and stuff in and have large areas to search for them.

I'd love a huge all water map where carrier groups could hunt for each other.
