Guess what I've skinned, maties? No? A VVS plane! Yep, that's right. As much as I love Luftwaffe planes, I figured it was time to apply my skills to some VVS schemes, and my first is a La5FN of 171 IAP. Of course, I couldn't completely abandon the Luftwaffe, so I've also skinned Viktor Bauer's attractive Friedrich. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
So he doesn't feel left out, here's Bauer's first..

Ok, now the Lavochkin. A big thanks to x4btr for all his help on the project. It's certainly increased my interest in the VVS, and I'll be making more La5 skins (all variants) and who knows, maybe even some more Soviet planes!
Anyway, let me know what you think. This skin features super-detailed and accurate panel lines etc, and authentic colours (as far as current research is concerned).

Yes! Alas, some ruski Skins. D/l straing away, finally some CCCP skins by You. You know, some of the I-16s, Il2s and those little bipes could do with a Cannon Makeover...

Wow! The VVS has been neglected for a long time. Although there exists some very nice skins of VVS birds, they are quite rare. That La-5 is a work of art! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
And the Bf 109 too of course! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Oberleutnant Oskar-Walter Romm thoughts on his aircraft.
"I found the Fw 190D-9 to be greatly superior to those of my opponents. During dogfights at altitudes of between about 10,000 and 24,000ft, usual when meeting the Russians, I found that I could pull the D-9 into a tight turn and still retain my speed advantage. In the descent the Dora-9 picked up speed much more rapidly than the A type; in the dive it could leave the Russian Yak-3 and Yak-9 fighters standing."

Soviet aircraft have a reputation for having 'boring' schemes but actually if you do a little research there are many very interesting VVS skins.
The La5FN is probably my favourite WWII fighter so some Canon skins for this bird will be much appreciated. No offense to any other skinners but Canon, for me, is the best around. We need to genetically clone him so we can get a skin workshop going!

Only thing I've ever had a problem with skinning the VVS (and to be honest, others as well) is some of the mapping of the skins- best example I can think of is the mast on the la5

cannon look at my old la7 skin, they are old and garbage skins but you can see what side the russian star wraps on the antenna which looks bad, i just made the one side look scratched missing paint so it didnt wrap the star on the antenna. Only solution to fix it.
Im hoping you do the two skins i did with you new template it looks great.

Hi CanonUK,
Are you going to do an update to that La-5FN white 9?
Mast

You mean with the mast sorted? No, because the actual plane was almost new, and so the weathering would look a little out of place.
It isn't that bothersome....

would you mind a one nitpicking criticism there Canon?
Lovely skins but on the Valerii Chkalov skin, you have written the last two letters of Valerii as Cyrillic 'n' rather than 'i', you need to put a slight angle on the join (rising from the left to the right) between the two stems of the letter, but make sure you keep the diacritic over the second 'i'. Sorry, really pedantic I know, but there ya go.
keep em comin'!
