Does anybody know in which file does the game store keyboard command bindings? I want to try some things out but I'd like to backup my current configuration first so I can go back to it easily.

Settings/conf file in the User folder.

Another tidbit - in your Users folder there is a file called 'default.ini' which contains all the standard keystroke definitions.
Whenever you create a new pilot this default.ini is copied as the new settings.ini file in the pilot's folder (under users).
Once you have created a good key config you can ensure it is used by any new pilot profile by copying it into the users folder and renaming it default.ini (good idea to first rename the original default.ini to something like default.ini.old)

Cheers
