Tell me something. When you come up behind another car at night, or another car comes towards you from the opposite direction, do you dip your headlights so that they're not on main beam? You do? And you do this... why? Because main beam dazzles people who happen to be looking at it, right? So you dip your headlights so that you don't blind other drivers because that would be foolish and dangerous...

Can you not see that that's the same thing as not dipping your lights? Cars are perfectly visible with headlights on to anyone who isn't too blind to be driving in the first place. Adding fog lights to the mix is unnecessary, and poses a danger to other road users. I don't know what the law of your land says, but in the UK, we drive to the Highway Code (well, supposedly!), which quite clearly says that fog lights should not be used unless visibilty falls to less than 100 metres... The police wouldn't hesitate to stop an idiot driving without lights at night, because he's a danger to himself. But they leave cars with fog lights on well aone, even though they're not only endangering themselves but also other road users...

Yeah, maybe he doesn't... To be fair to him, there's not an aweful lot of point in him bothering. Drivers will be blinded by his fog lights anyway, so leaving his headlights on main beam would make no difference at all...

I only use the fog lights if it's raining (and therefore lower visibility... not so I can see, but so other people can see me... I drive an all-black truck) or if it's foggy. The fog lights are mounted on the lower front bumper, and *as you should know* they are aimed down at the road... if lights being aimed down at the road are blinding you, you must be looking in the wrong direction!!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I don't drive on bright sunny days with fog lights, or on "normal" nights with fog lights... only when it's raining/snowing and the visibility drops.

And I hardly ever drive with brights on, I don't have a need for them.

EDIT: As a note mentioned above, if you are being blinded by the fog lights as you approach the car, then they are installed "incorrectly" and would not provide the intended benefit because they would only serve to illuminate the fog directly in front of the driver, thereby actually making the bad condition worse... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

To be honest, I'm not that bothered about people who drive with fogs on during the day - I think it makes them look like... nothing I can type in here (!!), but in broad daylight they're not blinding, so I don't really mind it so much.

But trust me, fog lights aimed down at the road are still blinding at night. I don't use fog-lights in the rain, coz that's what headlights are for. If you think you can't see a car at night when it's raining because it's only got headlights on and not fogs, then you're obviously too blind to be safe behind a steering wheel!! Lol...

I don't even have my fog lights on all the time in fog. If I'm on my own, then they go on if the fog is thick enough to justify it. But as soon as I come up behind a car, or another car comes up behind me, I'll switch either the front/rear (delete as necessary!) fog lights off to avoid dazzling them...

And it's okay, by the way: I didn't mean it about no more Igor help! Since I imagine I'm very unlikely to meet you on the open road somewhere, I'm probably not gonna see you with your fog lights on when I don't think you need them. Which means it's kinda pointless getting real pi$$ed off with you for it...
