i show the weapon all the time, doesn't feel right anymore if I can't see it.

I always force it if I serve aswell.

I like seeing my gun, without it its just like dull old Rogue Spear.

I don't use it. And people like the above are part of the reason I usually only play on the UBI servers.

being forced to play with it is rediculous, i cant believe they even put the option in the game to force it.

I play it with the gun in sight, except when playing multiplayer, then I take it off (assuming the server allows it of course)

XyZspineZyX

I play with the weapon model, but can easily play without as I am a veteran GR and SWAT3 player as well /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Right now, however, a fellow forum member and myself are experimenting with Iron Sights and have gotten them to work without having to use the SDK (which isn't out yet obviously) so if you guys think playing with it on now is frustrating, wait until this is added to the Mod /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

But no. Seriously...

I understand the fact that you do get a wider field of view without a first person weapon and that was the way R6 has always been played and the fact that it is just the way some people prefer to play and I respect that.

However, with this new Mod -- which I know would never be officially adopted by any leauge or ladder -- I think you might change your mind as we've come up with a way to where it really is iron sights in every sense of the word to where the weapon moves to infront of you and you can line up the reticle with the actual sights (front and rear) of the model (this part is taking most of our time because the weapon models in RvS are actually skewed slightly and not a straight 90 like you think).

yeah but u cant have iron sights and a scope can u?
I think special ops would prefer a scope tbh, but keep up the good work!

i like playing without seeing the weapon, and i hate servers that force you to see it.

XyZspineZyX

I suppose that forcing the option is BS, however i find it pathetic to not see your feet or your body when you look down... because it's a so-amiga-game like effect that makes me puke.

With the weapon model its somewhat more acceptable, because your are not death delivering ghost but supposedly a 3d model.

W weapon model and W iron sights.

I NEVER use it. I too am a Rogue Spear and SWAT 3 veteran. For me, it just doesn't feel right with it on. I was FURIOUS when this game got released with a server option to FORCE me to use it. I only ever play in servers with Force First Weapon View DISABLED. Fortunately, quality respectable servers like ThePlatoon, Dunz, Atlanta T1, and a few others I can think of don't have the option enabled. If I'm playing Raven Shield with friends and they insist on playing in a server that happens to force it on me, I cannot play unless I use a gun with a suppressor to hide the muzzle flash - that muzzle flash all over the screen is EXTREMELY distracting and feels like I'm shooting blindly.

Here's why the First Person Weapon View just doesn't make sense realistically:
Anyone who's ever operated any kind of firearm that's even remotely similar to the real world weapons such as the ones in Raven Shield, knows that when using it, you're not LOOKING at the gun. Your eyes are ALWAYS focused down range. In fact, with enough experience, even when you go to reload you don't even look at the gun because your hands have memorized the motions.

The only time a player should see his own weapon from a video game view is if using iron sights , a la Operation Flashpoint. That game has it PERFECT - most of your view is of the target, and the iron sight is blurred because your eyes aren't focused on it. Perfect system.

I have used guns on many occasions in the real world, and I was trained to look at the sights, not the target. You are supposed to focus on your sights and then place them on the target you are shooting at. Try it while playing RVS, stare at your reticule, and let your peripheral vision tell you where to aim. You won't get over thirty or forty percent shooting percentage like the hackers, but you will shoot a lot more accurately.

XyZspineZyX
07-08-2003, 09:13 PM
Whatever the 'hardcores' opinions about not seeing the gun, I still believe that actually not seeing even PORTION of the weapon when its carried at the TORSO, as you see the 3rd person model is WRONG. MUCH of the LOWER visual SHOULD be indeed covered by the arms and weapon if one should follow the external view rappresentation of the operatives.

I sincerely believe that we are accustomed to a 3d rappresentation of the models in first person that's extremely inadequate, since you: cannot shoot your feet or your bollocs, dont see where youre stepping and simply float in the air... and for "reality's" sake, is simply pathetic.

Whatever you say about training and peripheral vision may be right on the actual aiming, but you will NEVER stop seeing your arms, hands, weapons, and AIMING EQUIPMENT, properly as in OP: FLASHPOINT, which is a true jewel in realism (apart from the feckin bugs, of course).

I play without it

The muzzle flash blinds me and I end up just spraying to get a kill.

I will not play on a server that forces it.

Much is said in this game about realism, well I believe that properly realism SHOULD justify why the weapon model was finally introduced: you are SUPPOSED to get visual obstruction from muzzle flash and weapon swinging, since we dont have an 'AIM' button like in VIETCONG, OP:FLASHPOINT, ecc. Ok that humans have stereoscopic vision and a MUCH wider FOV than the pathetic 70 degrees we are used to in FPSs, but that is something that can't simply be solved in PC games.

The weapon is ALWAYS prepped, and as you can see from the 3rd person animations, the operatives simply pivot them in shooting position.

Sincerely, even if I was EXPECTING an 'AIM BUTTON' (obviously missing), I believe weapon models are one of the 'innovative' and interesting aspects of the game... togheter with ragdolls, which are simply too cool.

OFF TOPIC

I just saw yogsothoth's post and wanted to say WAZZZUP MAN
its been a long time come play on the rad server sometime

ON TOPIC i play w/wep model just because it is more realistic than the simple reticle although it isnt as realistic as a real gun but........its a game right

PS props to KungFu keep it up man hope to see a universial mod that ppl will want to install on their servers

You guys have given me more feedback and something I am going to include in 1.2 along with Iron Sights:

SMALLER MUZZLE FLASHES.

This is the easiest "mod" to do and will take me a few minutes. I'm not going to replace the Muzzle sprite, I'm simply going to tell the engine to SCALE it down.

See... Read the boards, gather intel, adjust the game accordingly.

How [edit] HARD is that UBI??????!!!!

If I can do it... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I play without because it takes up half the screen... I simply don't play on servers that force it. Any good clan server doesn't have it forced.

No map requires nvg, just type in gamma 1.2 or 1.3 in the console.

I play without the FP weapon cause I got used to it in RS. I've tried it on and couldn't stand it taking up so much of my screen. Realism or not I just want play as good as I can and see no reason for limiting my vision with a pretty, but useless, FPW model.

Just a funny side note: My friend likes the weapon model turned on and I asked him why. He said it gives him more confidense seeing the gun fire, flash and studder with recoil... LOL! Whatever makes ppl better players(excluding cheating of course) is fine by mehttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

At first I played with it enabled. Now I have it disabled. It's just easier to use. There's no muzzle flash or smoke from your gun to deal with.
