I think those screenshots look pretty impressive, and with AA/AF enabled would look even better.

As for comparing to Far Cry, we havent seen any truly urban areas so comparison is not that simple, I personnaly think both engines look great and both have their own advantages. I have got a feeling that Half-Life 2 will be one of those games that runs really smooth out of the box on current hardware, similar to max payne 2 when that was first released.

I've been waiting for HL2 for such a long time it's untrue but looking at those pics I could take it or leave it.

Farcry is absolutly stunning, the character models, the sky, the terrain and that oh so wonderful water.

The SP missions are great, I havn't been playing it in a while cos I have been doing a lot of MP but late last night I did a few levels and was still being stunning by the game.
The AI was fantaatic, I was on the last section of the level "steam" it was in the dark and there was a camp of mercs.
After getting them nice and angry by lobbin in a nade from a clifftop it was so cool to see them strafe for cover, some fall back, some advance forward.

Then there is the MP. I was on for 4 hours solid last night with my clan. We had some great TDM and FFA games and a few assult games.
4 of us loaded up in 2 jeeps rolling along towards the flag, pulled up and captured it.
Great fun.

Who cares which game will have better gfx? both will look good enough. It's all about gameplay (something that FC is lacking in single player).

Unfortunately the net code is **** - so it won't take off online, and neither will it's mods (would be great if this could be fixed)

Those Pics are to Vague and Low-Res to even be worth Talking about.
For all we know they probably came from the packaged version made from the leak thats been floating around in Russia. Or from the leaked version itself. Not to mention the recompiled versions that have been floating around....

Does anybody know if those screens came from anybody "official" because i expect there to be alot of changes in the Released version from the one that was leaked.

Just got this monthe PC Zone..uk mag..with new screens and they really don't look that impressive and IMO not as good as FC.

Havn't read the artical yet but I did spot they MAY up the min req to 1ghz, but they say once you get over 1.2ghz the differace will be negligable when coupled with 256mb ram and a 9600 or above. Which to me backs up the fact that the visuals are not as cutting edge as were expecting.

That's a good thing imo - more ppl will be able to play the game.

After playing Far Cry for a few hours I messed about at CS and ET with my clan mates. Immediately it was obvious the gfx looked rubbish in comparison.

However, within 10 seconds of the games starting this didn't matter at all. The resulting matches were far more intense, fun and immersive than anything Far Cry's single, or multiplayer, game can offer. Gaemplay is FAR more important (you only notice the visuals if the experience isn't good enough to keep you enthralled)

//edit - of course decent visuals can help the immersion, but only when coupled with a decent game (which I vet my hat HL2 will be http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ).

Heh I think the graphics are going to be irrelevant for my enjoyment of HL2 - I can't run FC at full details (though it still looks great) - I can't see HL2 looking a whole lot better than FC on my system. However I am looking forward to HL2 - HL was a true classic. I'm just glad that we have Far Cry in the meantime http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If and when half-life 2, doom 3 and duke nukem forever finally get released they will have to be dam good to live up to far cry's graphics, ai and gameplay!
I think that far cry is by far the best sp fps around and it will be that way for a long long time!

Anyway i played the beta of this and the screenshots dont do justice the actual game graphicas i played it on 1280x....... and it looked gorgeous. Where this game will beat far cry i think personally is the gameplay and the story coz its going to be huge and i bet the best gameplay ever seen in a FPS and the best experiance you are gonna have as to date.
Also i think the mods for this will be amazing especially CS2 which i cant wait for

personally I think Stalker is going to beat both. HL2 was really getting me excited but then to much **** happened so i don't think ill get to excited for it anytime soon. I think STALKER will beat out any other game graphics wise also. If you look at thier screens, aparently we havn't even seen the DX9 engine. They are going to have two different engines to run the game. One for cards that run DX8, and the other for 9. It auto detects on install and they're supposed to show off the DX9 engine this E3... CANT WAIT!

Half-life 2 is going to be fantastic, as will Doom3, Stalker and unreal 3. but the one im most looking forward to is Duke nukem forever!

But for now im happy with Far cry coz its awsome!

I don't think HL2 or even Doom3 will even come to the level of gameplay and graphics of FarCry, couse I've played both Doom3 beta2 and the stolen HL2 and can tell you that visuals are not that jaw droping like FarCry. I personally like Doom3 better. HL2 was something like Chaser and even worse. I doubt both games will be longer than the half of FC. I've read somewhere Jonh Carmac saying 10h is enough for current games which are priced 40-50$ because a movie 2 hours long costs you 20$ or at least in US. errrrrr...........no HL2's lighting effects are twice as good as FarCry and the Beta of HL2 is in no way a representation of the final product and the Physics are the best yet over 50 differnt enemies that actually use the physics themselves to hunt you down or trick you you just kissing FarCry a ss accept it everyones gonna have forgot about it by this summer.....and it has been said the length of game will be twice of that of the original...

yeh the enitre gaming world world is off their nut for hl2 adn its being hailed as the best game ever even before its realese, but they are all worng and you are right of course hl2 looks <font color="FF0099">*EDIT*</font color> dont it. I agree about the length in doom but hl2 will be as long as the original and thats a LOT longer than fc (if you knew anything about it and hadnt just aquired an illegal copy supporting illegal acts of sofware piracy that holds games up and causes numerous problems you would already know that of course.) That's a pretty worthless arguement. Gamers are excited over what a game might be so it's going to be good?

We can say this fairly obviously now, HL2's graphics are not as good as Far Cry's. We really can't say anything other about HL2 then that.

Might it turn out to be an exceptional game? Absolutely. I like the machine and alien designs, the environments are interesting, story should be something, the weapons are cool and have sci fi abilities not found in other games... the physics should be enabled on a lot more things and be a lot more useable... in short it's a different game...

and if it's true what he's saying in the article that the leak demoralized the team then I can imagine how far cry must have made them feel and kind of feel sorry for them... but it's hard to believe anything they say when they've been caught lying and haven't done anything to rebuild trust and confidence... they are doing a pretty bad job of keeping their fans interested imo

Also, look at Picture 24 in the Gamespy.com Half-Life pics, the shawdows are all wrong... I cant believe that no-body noticed that before. The Static objects cast entireley diffrent shadows than the tanks and people.

You cant judge a game like HL2 by screenshots. Look at FC through a s/s and you can see it would also look bad. You need to see the game running in fluid motion, which the year old video shows.
