'ello gents!
I'm at work right now so bare with me if I don't get this all down correctly:

I'm having problems with the inner and outer shadowing of a large garage (basic entity) that I've placed on a SP map I'm working on.

In the Sandbox editor (and even in the Sandbox "game mode") the shadows are there and look very realistic.
When going to test the map in the actual game itself though the shadows disappear completely and the inside of the building appears as bright as the outside.
I've ticked all the (as far as I know) correct tabs in the basic entitie's pull down menu and have used the create shadowmap and update shadowmap tools.

Everything else on the map (trees, mountains, vehicles, etc.) has correct shadowing... and I swear the building had shadows at one time.

Anyone know what I missing? Is it maybe in my Environment settings? (although I've checked and everything seems okay.)
I've been studing, reading the manual and this forum since the game came out so I have a fairly good working handle on what I'm doing... but I still need a pro's help.
I'll post a few pics when I get home later today.

Thanks for the help!

Hi Kirock

I was having trouble with this myself at first... First of all, probably a silly question, but have you re-compiled your Lightmaps since placing your buildings?

and are the 'use sunlight' / 'shadows' options ticked in the misc section of the lightmaps setup dialog?

how do you have the brushes shadow properties set at the moment? the other thing i can think to suggest is playing with the 'castLightmap' checkbox, turning this OFF seemed to do the trick for me.

I know what you mean about the lighting looking the same indoors as outdoors and i havent been able to successfully use the 'selfShadows' funtion on a brush such as a garage etc that has a roof and closed walls/doors, anyway logically this shouldnt work anyway, an indoor area will not be self shadowed by anything other than internal bounced light, or an internal light source

but turning the 'castLightmaps' checkbox off did make all the difference in making my indoor brushes look more realistic.

**edit** just had a quick play with my map, and it seems that once lightmaps and surface textures are generated, the cast / recieveLightmap checkbox seems to be just as important as the shadowmap boxes in getting indoor brushes to react to sunlight properly.

hope this helps

Mike

Interesting how you can't delete duplicate posts in this forum....

Mike
Thanks for the response, mate.
I've picked up a nasty head cold so I haven't been working on my maps or checking this forum much... but as soon as I feel a little better (how about now? :-) I'll try out your suggestions.
Thanks again!
